We recognize that in early spring, at the start of the racing season, you may not want to engage in a full marathon, or maybe you do but would like to bring a friend that just isn’t up to the whole distance! That’s why we’re bringing back the HALF, Asheville Marathon at Biltmore Estates’ answer to creating an entire destination experience for you, your friends and your family. If you want to experience the typical ‘off-limit’s’, primitive west side of the estate, you’ll have to train and sign up for the full marathon! The west side will remain exclusive for our full marathoners only.
Friends and Family can run the Civilized Side together.
For the first 10 miles, full & half marathoners’ run the same course. Enjoying all the European Gardens, the exquisite views of the Biltmore House, and the manicured grounds. When the full marathoners break for the primitive west side, half marathoners will complete their last three miles along the beautiful, rustic banks of the French Broad River.
Participating in this event automatically puts you in the history books as you will be part of an Inaugural Half Marathon event at Biltmore Estate! Every participant will receive either a women’s specific or a men’s custom designed race t-shirt, a goodie bag, and a finisher’s award and blanket. Race entry includes access to the Biltmore grounds. For a complete list of amenities see the ‘Registration‘ page.
Half Marathoners get to experience running on the Biltmore Estate, but in a manageable distance for all you busy racers. So, now there’s no excuse not to participate in this elite event experience. Halfers do get finisher awards but are not eligible for prize money, nor do elite programs or pace leader apply to this event.
Appalachian Distance Series of races has added the Asheville Marathon & Half to its Distance Series of the Southeast. Complete all the races inside a twelve month period to earn your series finisher medal. Check out appalachiandistanceseries.org to get our event specific coupon codes.
“To me, this photo says it all. While we run by what was once the largest private home in the US, this is truly a grass roots event allowing us to view life at a slower pace. The farms, the woods, the vineyards, the dirt roads, the open spaces and lack of noisy spectators allow us to run because we are enjoying it. So many marathons are turning into circuses with glitz and noise. Thank you all for putting on an event that doesn’t need gimmicks.”
