Congratulations to Samantha Nielsen: Our featured (returning) Asheville Marathon & Half Ambassador! A runner since middle school, she never thought she would love long distance running. Married nearly 2 years now, Samantha and husband Michael run marathons, halves and 5k’s up and down the east coast!
A DC transplant, Samantha loves baking, running (obviously!), and everything in-between as she tells her story of the ups and downs of her health and fitness journey on her blog, Bake N’ Burn. In her latest article, Samantha muses about fitness attire remarking “how integrated into our society fitness has become. It can make a fashion statement.” Check out her article, Fitness Meets Fashion, and consider stopping by at the Asheville Marathon Swag Store while you’re at it!
“If you had told me at the age of 14 that I would fall in love with long distance running and train for months in the rain, snow, and blistering sun to run 13.1 or more miles, I would have told you that you should probably stop huffing paint.”
SAMANTHA NIELSEN* | WASHINGTON D.C.
How did your running story begin? “Running and I have had a love/hate relationship for the last 15 years. I began running in middle school and continued through high school as a sprinter and hurdler.
How far have you come since middle school? “As an adult I discovered distance running. Since that moment I have run 8 Half Marathons, 1 Full Marathon, and too many other races to count!”
Do you have anything upcoming? “I’m currently training to run another 3 half marathons this fall and the Marine Corps Marathon in October.”
