NICKI CONROY* | ENDICOTT, NY

Nicki-ConroyWhat inspired you to start running, Nicki? “As a single mother of six, I found it difficult to do much other than feed kids, parent, work and sleep. In 2007, after both my parents being diagnosed with a multitude of health problems that my lifestyle would be ripe to allow me to inherit, I began running.”

What are some of the runs you’ve done to date? “In December of 2009, I ran my first race, the inaugural It’s a Wonderful 5K in Seneca Falls, NY. It was all addictive from there. To date, I’ve run 6 marathons, 13 half marathons, and a myriad of 10Ks, 15Ks, 20Ks, the dreaded 5Ks, 5 milers and 10 milers. I have also been a member of a Ragnar team that ran Ragnar Adirondacks in 2013.”

Bio: As a resident of Endicott, New York, Nicki is a professional writer, a mother of 6 and an inspiring individual. Having run as 2009 she continues to enthusiastically embrace her journey as a runner! “Having raised six children, ‘mother’ is probably the label that I associate with most closely. Unfortunately, while motherhood may last forever, the constant need for mothering does not and I have had to reinvent myself many times. With two married adult children and my ‘baby’ in college and turning 20 this year, the time for raising children is over and the time for living a different life has come. (Nicki’s Nook)”

“My favorite running fuel is a beer when I’m done. To be slightly more serious, I eat a lot of eggs when training for both pre-run protein and post-run recovery.”
