How did you start your running life? “I began ‘really’ running in college as way to keep off that pesky Freshman 15, but quickly found that running was so much more than exercise… it is peace of mind and a way of life.”

Totally! What happened next? “I started doing short distance races and half marathons 14 years ago, but it was not until I was living in Washington DC that I decided to run the Marine Corps Marathon in 2008.  It was one of the best days of my life, and I was immediately hooked.”

What are some of your accomplishments? “Asheville will be my 17th full marathon including: 2 Marine Corps, Chicago, San Diego, Big Sur, and Walt Disney just to name a few.  I am a member of Half Fanatics and was set to earn my Marathon Maniac status at Asheville last year, but thanks to a broken bone was unable to do so.”

What do you love about running? “I love running for the places that it takes you and the wonderful people you encounter… I have friends all over the country (some I have never actually met face-to-face) thank to our wonderful sport.  I am so excited to be a part of representing this wonderful race in one of my favorite cities!”

Upcoming Races:
-Smoky Mountain Half-Marathon (September)
-Monumental Indianapolis Full Marathon (November)
-Maui Full Marathon (January)

What’s your running fuel and post-race treat? “Running Fuel –> I have a very sensitive tummy, so I try to stick to the organic and all natural products from Honey Stinger… I love the lemon waffles and the cherry blossom chews.  I also love fruit during runs… especially watermelon because it not only has a high sugar content, but also is very hydrating.   BUT… after a big race or long run I can’t lie you will find me running straight for Mellow Mushroom for a giant slice (or 3) of  Kosmic Karma!!!”
