AprilShupingCongratulations to April Shuping of Gainesville, Florida for becoming our latest featured Asheville Marathon and Half Ambassador! Accountant and mother of two, April keeps it interesting by running dozens of races up and down the East Coast! This flat-lander admits that she’ll have to train extra hard for the mountains in Asheville, but she’s up to the task!

April is also an avid blogger and she is very active on the web, as well as the outside world! In her latest article, she takes you into a day in the life of public accountancy – it’s a lot more exciting than you might think – running, and motherhood in the central Florida area. Check it out in her Saturday Update.

“I’ve always struggled with my weight, typically being about 25 pounds overweight but physically fit, because I do actually love exercising. I walked 3 times a week, generally for 3 miles for 3 months, losing about one pound a week. Around that time, I was looking for an inspiring goal event and found the Disney Princess half marathon. Disney + running + awesome medal + princess costume = awesome! Now I had something concrete on my calendar to keep me focused and accountable. I successfully ran the Princess Half in February 2013 and since then I’ve run four more half marathons and lots of other races.”

Tell us about yourself and you’re running experience! “I’m a 40 year old mom of two and CPA. I’ve run seven half marathons, including my PR at the Space Coast Half, the Tink Half, the Princess Half and my favorite, the Wine & Dine Half.”

What do you have upcoming? “My upcoming races include the Wine & Dine Half, the WDW 10k, Gasparilla and the Asheville Half.”

What are you looking forward to in the Asheville Half? “Hill running is not my thing, so I have a lot of training to do to learn to embrace them!”

Do you have a favorite training/recovery food? “My favorite recovery food is dark chocolate almond milk & peanut butter toast. My favorite training fuel is Honey Stingers Gummies; Orange Blossom.”
