We’d like to send out a big thanks to Andy Smith for being a returning Asheville Marathon & Half Ambassador!
You know that Andy has been training hard to get ready for this years’ race… just last month he completed a half marathon while supporting the Carolina Panthers and took a spontaneous hiking adventure excursion to South Mountains State Park. He was also found strutting his ambassador stuff at Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon! Find Andy at several iDaph Events, on the radio, and on many local roads and trails!
“My calves are burning today! The Frostbite 10K was a great trial run for the @AvlMarathon next month.”
Tell us about your running story, Andy! “My running story began in 2008 when a friend randomly talked me into running a 5K. With zero training, I thought I could handle it. I was wrong, and it hurt. I could’ve given up, but I didn’t. I ran again.”
What happened next? “It wasn’t long until I caught the bug. Almost 6 years later, I’ve completed four full marathons, at least 15 half marathons (I’ve stopped counting), a triathlon, and I serve as a Long Distance Running Coach for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training.”
Any upcoming events? “In January 2015, I took my second crack at the Goofy Challenge in Walt Disney World (because I’m a glutton for punishment). I’m thrilled to follow up my run in the Happiest Place on Earth with a run through America’s Largest Backyard.
