Our goal is to collect 250 shoes for the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Foot Care Clinic!
BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES, BRING SHOES!
Shoes can be dropped off at the Expo on Friday or Saturday OR at the Finisher Bag Tent on race day!
Please bring gently used or new tennis shoes! Tennis shoes seem to be the best, as the homeless population likes them, because they hold up for such a long period of time. The shoes that the WCRM receive during the Asheville Marathon & Half event will go towards their annual “Foot Care Clinic”.
Help us by donating new or lightly used tennis shoes that will go towards Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Annual “Foot Care Clinic”.
About the Foot Care Clinic: The Foot Care Clinic takes place in the Spring. Volunteers will: wash the homeless’ feet, give them a “pedicure” (cut their nails, etc.) , lotion their feet, and then they will be given a pair of brand new socks and brand new shoes. In addition, medical staff will be on site to help with any lesions or suspicious areas on their feet that might need medical attention.
Following this event, a nice meal will be served to the clients in a more formal, restaurant style service, where volunteers bring them their food, etc. rather than making them go through the cafeteria line. Generally the Clinic serve adults, but sometimes will have several young children. The whole goal behind this event is to let the homeless population know that they are loved and cared for and feel valued.
