The Joseph Initiative is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit that works with the local community and non-profit organizations to offer essential services and enrichment programs that strengthen families and community in Buncombe County.

One of the JI major initiatives is to provide programs for teens that teach them human relation skills, like leadership and communication. They are currently serving this segment of our community because they are underserved. JI wants our community teenagers to know they have value and talent and have something to contribute to the Asheville community. They want to see them stay out of trouble, graduate from high school and go on to attend college or pursue and be successful at a career.

The funds generated through this charity partnership will not only help us fund these programs, it will assist us in better connecting the members of our community with one another. We are gearing up for our next multi-media class for teenagers. The course will be covering a number of topics from safety on social media to journalism. We are starting with a program that will engage the young people in our community by teaching them about the process of videography, while also teaching them about the Asheville community. The course requires the purchase of cameras and other videography equipment.

The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club’s mission is to enable young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. We are more than an after school program. We are a youth development organization serving school-aged youth 5 to 18 years old. Our club is a positive place for kids and impacts the life of every young person it serves. We provide a safe place to go, a home away from home, where children feel welcomed and where they join together in wholesome recreation and companionship.
By becoming charity partners again with the Asheville Marathon, The Cindy Platt Boys & Girls Club of Transylvania County hopes to gain awareness of our organization outside of our county that we would otherwise not have the opportunity to do so. Last year’s experience was truly positive for all involved from volunteers to those racing. We hope to have this opportunity again now that we know first hand how things work!
