Only five months away! Time to start planning for your spring marathon!

Asheville Marathon celebrates 8th year

The 8th annual Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate is the only race of its kind, run entirely on the grounds of Biltmore in Asheville, North Carolina. We are only five months away from one of the top marathons in the country, so if you’re planning on running through America’s largest backyard in March, it’s time to firm up your training plan.

Runners will get to explore the west side of the Estate, which is unique terrain only experienced in this marathon. Often described as a “boutique style race,” the Asheville Marathon and Half is a bucket list must do. In 2018 the Asheville Marathon was named by Outside Online as one of the Top 9 vacation-worthy marathons and The Top Ten Best Spring/Summer Marathons to Run by MapMyRun. We were also listed as one of the 70 American Road Races every runner should finish by Runner’s World Magazine. While other marathons and halves present you with monotonous scenes of asphalt, steel, and glass, the marathon course around Biltmore provides depth and diversification: from the marvels of gardening and architecture that is the Estate itself, to lesser tamed, more challenging stretches that lie at the end of the race  along the rustic banks of the French Broad River.

This year’s Charity Partner a personal choice by iDaph’s Race Director

This year our Charity Partner is the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This will not be the first time we have selected the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to fighting blood cancer. When Asheville Marathon race director, Daphne Kirkwood selected LLS as the event’s charity partner in 2013, she had no idea that just a few years later she too would be affected by the disease and fighting for her life. Today, Kirkwood is in remission and announced LLS as the “Official Champion Charity” at the 8th annual event to take place March 21-22, 2020 at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. LLS’s iconic sports training program, Team In Training, will be bringing a nationwide team to participate in the race.

About Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate

The Asheville Marathon began 8 years ago with only a marathon option, which sold out quickly in its first year, and again the next year. A nationwide interest in half marathons was becoming popular, so for the 3rd year a half marathon option was added.  In the 4th year, the event expanded to two days of races and a half marathon on each day. To add a twist in the 5th year the Backyard to Vineyard Challenge was created, where participants race in the Saturday half and Sunday full. The challenge was very popular and for the 6th anniversary, Backyard to Backyard Challenge was added, where participants run both the Saturday half and the Sunday half. Now in its 8th year both days of races, including the challenges, are expected to be sold out, with 3,100 participants.

The Asheville Marathon & Half at Biltmore Estate is held on and run entirely on the grounds of the Biltmore Estate, where runners will wind through paved and packed dirt roads to see hardwood forest, meadows, gardens, and extraordinary views of the Biltmore House and Estate. This is the original Asheville Marathon and first race of its kind to come to Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina; don’t miss out on being part of history at Biltmore Estate.
