Sky’s the Limit Fund (STLF) is a non-profit organization that supports youth in crisis by providing grants for wilderness therapy programs, family coaching services, community outreach and more for families with financial need.

The crisis of today’s youth has reached epidemic proportions.  They face problems that do not discriminate based on ethnicity, religion or socioeconomics.  Problems including, but not limited to, substance abuse, mental health and social difficulties plague young people at an alarming rate. Wilderness therapy programs provide effective and personalized therapeutic care while achieving high-impact and long lasting improvement.

STLF partners with 9 Wilderness Therapy Programs nationwide to connect youth in crisis with the funds they desperately need for treatment.  Since inception, STLF has awarded over 330 grants with total funding to families in crisis of over $1.6 million.  Our Wilderness Therapy Partners match each grant we provide with a tuition reduction – thus brining our total funding to over $3 million.

SUWS of the Carolinas is one of STLF’s Wilderness Therapy Partners.

SUWS of the Carolinas is an outdoor treatment center for troubled teens offering wilderness therapy. SUWS blends traditional clinical modalities with wilderness treatment for this fact; it works in bringing about lasting recovery.

Mental illness impacts the lives of millions of adolescents, yet the majority are not receiving needed treatment. Some of the barriers preventing teens from getting the help they need are the shortage of adolescent-specific treatment programs and the fact that adolescents tend to be a difficult population to treat as they are more likely to minimize the gravity of their mental health issues and resist intervention.

Adolescents who don’t receive appropriate treatment for their mental health disorders are at increased risk for poor academic performance, dropping out of school, family conflict, substance abuse, violence, and other emotional and behavioral problems.

Outdoor Behavioral Healthcare (OBH), also referred to as wilderness therapy, has proven to be an effective alternative for treatment-resistant youth. Wilderness programs have evolved over the last five decades, growing into a comprehensive and clinically sophisticated intervention. Most wilderness programs now offer clinical assessments, individualized treatment planning, individual and group therapy, and substance abuse education and treatment.

All donations collected through the AVL Marathon will be restricted to help send youth directly to SUWS of the Carolinas.
